1051 Main Street – Springfield, MA

Before I started my search, I already knew this building was located in Springfield, MA.  I started with a Google search for “J.M. Pickins Springfield”.  This turned up a book on a legal case that was available online.  The book included the testimony of a man, Raymond J. Hannon, who had previously worked at J.M. Pickins’ store.  He didn’t know the address of the store.  However, he stated it was on the east side of Main Street Between Taylor Avenue and Park Street.

Other stores in the original photo include Thieme Bros. who sold paint, wallpaper, varnish, and other goods.  There is also a storefront for N.L. Byron, Undertaker.

After I located the intersection of Main and Park on Google Maps, it didn’t take long to find the building using Google Street View.  (The two floors, each with a row of eight windows, was easy to spot.)

The address of the building is 1051 Main Street in Springfield, MA.  Although the building appears to have been modernized, it’s nice to see it retains many of it’s original architectural details.  Even the replacement windows resemble the ones from more than a century ago.
